thank you sanghouston for your comments.

I used to craze about this game when i was young. As i used to reside in Triplicane, close to Chepauk, i never missed a single match there even if it were a Buch Babu tournament or a Ranji or Deodar or Duleep trophy mathces. in fact, i used to volunteer to manage scoreboard (In those days we had 4 score boards 3 of roller type, one board type and the other being Bengal lamps). However, i lost the charm in cricket once these ODI took over! The charm of the game is lost now and to be frank, nowadays i do not even watch them on TV!

WOW! It seemed to me that you were writing this blog while watching it on T.V. How do you remember such details about a match that took place in 1983?? I've no cricket knowledge, but enjoyed the passion that you seem to have for this sport! Excellent post!!

thanks madds123, the commentary used to get interrupted whenever we had local news during that time. The commentary stopped when Richards was belting us (thank God, i listened to BBC for a non-stop version) and the local commentary resumed only when Clive was caught out.

nostalgic moments!

Dear Gopalakrishnan

It was wonderful reading down the memory lane, its a nice reminder to the events that unfoaded then.

I was by then working after completing my BE. I do remember catching up commentery  on my transistor radio, depending upon the signal strength we would receive it or not, i was in a remote place in Gujarat.

 Thanks & Regards

thank you.

I am also as optimistic as you are. However, considering the inconsistencies we have in our performance, i doubt it. Moreover, we do not have promising all rounders who could perform! thats our major handicap!

thank you keshav,

even i was studying then. I have entered 10th std or SSC you may call it and i was instructed by my parents that the years quota of watching cricket is over with that as i have to concentrate on studies. As i was a member of TNCA, we used to get tickets for evey match played in Chepauk. But for that year my dad enjoyed it!

Gopal sir,
Excellent! Loved going through the World Cup '83 once again through your blog. Srkkanth's cover drive on one knee, Kapil's catch, Sandhu's banana in-swinger... really heady stuff!
.
I was a student at the time and remember watching the semis and the finals on a grainy black & white TV at the hostel. It was a scene to be remembered with abt 300 screaming boys in the TV room... :-) I have always felt that the Semi finals was a better game than the finals. More exciting.

cheers,

Keshav
