scribbly,

yes it is still pending. Most of the countries in NSG feel that much were favored for India (just to accomodate India) and want some amendments. The major one being, India should shun its progress on building nuclear weapons. As of now only US, Russia, UK, France and China can do this.

With Bush going out and Obama in helm of affairs, one perceives that they might twist the arms(?) of India!

However, IAEA mentions everthing in general and nothing as India-specific. Moreover, the entire agreement is in legal language which i dont understand so i cant comment more on IAEA.

Hi,

Coincidentally I just wrote my post

http://indiaeveryday.blogspot.com/2008/07/abc-of-123-indo-us-iaea-nuclear-deal.html

on the same topic but it grew to be a longer version. I just noticed yours and I liked your short-crisp one here.

Your's is a balanced article. You have justified that we must enter into agreement with USA in our own interest. We may be able to solve our energy problem. The inspection of our civilian reactors must not give a long handle to USA for arm twisting.

We Indians are blessed with a nasty habit to fly off the handle at anything not in conformity with our presumptions. We are not prepared to countenance any contrary opinion even in the face of rational and logical arguments. What's worse, we'd rather jump to conclusion than have the patience to check up facts before responding to a given situation. However, Shri Gopalkrishanan seems to be an exception to the rule. He has devoted time and effort to check up and verify the facts from the available information regarding the different aspects of the Nuclear Deal. Thank you, Sir, for shedding light on a matter exercising and confounding most Indian minds.
