Rulers of Secular State

Of late, too many blogs are found in Sulekha, which bashes the Congress rule. The reason may be nuclear deal that is unclear or the Amarnath-yatra where sentiments take priority. While the freedom of expression is welcome, One happens to find many blogs depicting fanatic expressions that may not go down well with all. Let us avoid it.

Let me also join this issue that haunts us all – the Amarnath Yatra. I knew, there are more severe issues than this which needs attention. however it seems that this issue is blown out of proportion and is diverting the attention from price-rise & the future of Nuclear deal.

The biggest blunder in this regard is declaring our country as Secular. Secularism literally means atheism. When every walk of an Indian’s life has the influence of religion, we cannot claim ourselves Secular. If Indian secularism meant “Equality to all religions”, we should have implemented the Uniform Civil Code at the outset. Nor we did this.

Whenever a State claims itself as secular, it should keep itself away from all religious affairs and should not sponsor funds to any sort of religious activities. Alas! We failed in this too! Eyeing on the money Indian temples have, the Government decided to have a say on Hindu temples but did not do the same with other religions. The State, in the name of appeasement, provided travel subsidy for pilgrims of one particular religion but sitting silent on the problems faced by pilgrims of other religion.

When the rulers are known for their dubious approach towards secularism, they should watch every step they take in such affairs. The rulers were selective about secularism, but were not careful in their decisions. The decision to allot the land to Shrine Board, that too, in a land where Article 370 is yet to be repealed itself is a blunder by itself. After doing so, withdrawing the same after protests by a particular community, for which the rulers always walked extra mile in the name of appeasement, is nothing but adding insult to injury.

Whether one accepts or not, India is the land of Hindus. All other religion entered India at later stages only. When Hindus are met out with a step-mother treatment and people of other religions enjoy special treatment, such reactions are bound to happen. The rulers should correct themselves before it takes an ugly turn.

At the same time, BJP, which is hoping to rule the country, should behave responsibly. They should not try to politicize this issue. If they did so, they are earning a bad repute. This is a sensitive issue that needs to be handled carefully. If BJP supported the rulers in solving this problem in a “win-win” manner, they can win the forthcoming elections. Violence, caused by anyone, is harmful. BJP should realize it. In BJP, people expect an alternate to Congress not an alternate Congress.

It is such sort of treatment by the rulers keep the people divided and we, the so-called learned men are proven to be idiots as we fight among ourselves. This should not be allowed to happen.

There is a verse in Tamil Divya Prabandam, “Irrupidam vaikuntam…” means the place where you are is Vaikunt, Tirupati, etc,. why go around the places in search of God? Try to find Him in yourself. Kabir says, “Kasturi ka mrg jo phir phir doondai ghaas” like the deer of kasturi without knowing that the aroma is from itself, it looks for the odor in the grass! No Government can ban me worshipping my Lord in my Home and No God punishes you because you have not visited a shrine! Let us all understand this.
